Please say hello to the newest addition to the Jackson family.  Chama is a Bassett/Husky mix and is about 2 years old.  We met last Saturday at the EVHS adoption event at PetSmart and I looked into her eyes and that did it.  She is absolutely great with people and dogs alike.   So if you’re looking  for forever friend check out the Espanola Valley Humane Society and tell them Chama sent you.

Real World Manners

lucky_dawg_collage2

Please see our Calendar for current and upcoming class offerings,
and to reserve your spot.

Open to 6 dogs and their handlers.

For dogs 4 months and older; dogs younger than 4 months with permission of instructor; first class is orientation without your dog.

Real world manners offers you all the essentials to get your training started on the right paw with your dog!  Utilizing the lure-and-reward method, you and your dog will learn how to apply behaviors such as sit, down, wait’stay, leave it, focus/watch, go to your mat, and loose leash walking into your daily lives.  Real life set-ups such as a cafe environment; a comfy living room; or guests knocking on the door; will give you the tools to respond when you’re out there in the real world with your dog.  Recognize how to prevent and manage behaviors such as jumping up on guests, leash reactivity, destructive chewing, counter surfing, and excessive barking to name a few.  Learn what motivates your dog and how to use it to train for the behaviors you want.  this fun, on-leash class is for dogs with no previous training experience or for dogs needing a real world manners refresher.  Pet guardians must show proof of current vaccinations or titer testing results prior to the first class.

Tuesday, 6:30 – 7:30pm

Jetta & Fiona

This is a short video about two herding dogs at work. Jetta, the Aussie, and Fiona, the Border Collie, love to play together. This day, instead of herding, Jetta just decided to grab Fiona’s leash and drag her around to where she wanted her to go. Dogs are so resourceful.

In Memory of Luke Hendrickson

Luke left us a week ago and will be sorely missed by his all his friends (two-legged and four legged) in our K9 Nose Work group.  He was the epitome of a gentle giant.  Also know as “Fluffy”, he  was like a heat-seeking missile when it came to searching out the hidden treasures in our exercises.  Even when you weren’t  looking, he’d sneak up and stick his nose in your treat pouch to make sure he hadn’t missed anything.
His memory will stay with us forever along with all the good times we had together.  Sleep well, “Fluffy.”
